IMPORTANT UPDATE: Just before Christmas, a dear friend was rediagnosed with, and has recently had surgery for Lymphoma. My cause has become all the more urgent, and I hope that this event will raise awareness for the plight of those affected, both directly and indirectly, by this terrible illness.
I'm being brave and doing the Worlds Greatest Shave! Please sponsor me now!
Earlier this year, in late August, my dear friend Will lost his fight with Leukaemia. I couldn't go to the funeral in Queensland, and I needed to grieve. At the same time, another of my close friends was fighting Lymphoma, and I felt powerless to help. I joined my friends, Alain and Jason, as they walked for 24 hours in the Relay For Life. It was one of the most difficult things I'd ever done. I was physically, mentally and emotionally spent, but I felt more alive than I had in a long time. I needed to do more. In October, I was being mentored as a Personal Trainer, by the same people (including Alain and Jason) who had helped me turn my life around over the last two years. They'd helped me lose more than 50 kilos by setting positive goals. I realised that this was exactly the way that I could do more for the cause. For twelve years, I've kept my hair long, through a regimented program of disciplined hair care. I'm very attached to it, literally! I've decided to lose the lot for this awesome cause, but I need your help. I will give up my hair to remember Will, as a symbol of renewal and hope for the future, and to fight back against Leukaemia, and you can fight with me, by giving generously to the cause, or by joining my team!
- Blood cancer research is expensive but vital. The money you give will help fund important research into leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other blood disorders.
- Every 46 minutes someone in Australia gets the news they have blood cancer. The money you give will also support them from diagnosis, during their treatment and beyond.
All the Leukaemia Foundation's services are free. Let's keep them that way.
